Vienna Cyber Security Week 2018
The Energypact Foundation was established in 2007 in Switzerland as a non-profit and non-political organisation, and is now based in Vienna, Austria. Its mission is to promote the balanced use of energy sources with the objective of reconciling innovation, economic development and the protection of the environment. In order to better respond to threats to energy infrastructures, during the last two years, the Energypact Foundation has increasingly focused on cyber security for the energy sector. This focus is reflected in the foundation’s vision:
An international collaborative community of technologically and risk informed leadership, researchers, implementers, and stakeholders for the development, sustainability, and security of energy production, transmission, and delivery to address today’s challenges and tomorrow’s needs.

Osaka 2018 FIRST Technical Colloquium @ NTT WEST (NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE WEST CORPORATION) Training Center
Mar 14 – Mar 16 all-day
Osaka 2018 FIRST Technical Colloquium @ NTT WEST (NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE WEST CORPORATION) Training Center

FIRST Technical Colloquia & Symposia provide a discussion forum for FIRST members and invited guests to share information about vulnerabilities, incidents, tools and all other issues that affect the operation of incident response and security teams. This is the fourth time to have TC in Japan, and the topic of this time is “IoT”.

For you that are new in FIRST or never have attended a TC, the colloquium typically provides one whole day of plenary sessions for informal discussions and presentations on topics of FIRST membership interest, or that are more sensitive in nature and related to the day-to-day work of participants.

The FIRST colloquia are typically hosted by members and since 2005 are being organized in a regional basis — the current regions being Latin-America, North-America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. For each region the goal is to organize one TC per year — either standing on its own, or jointly with regional CSIRT initiatives.

The Osaka TC intends to have presentation track and hands-on class(es). In addition, 2nd Summit Days (Global Vulnerability Reporting Summit) after 5 years at TC in Kyoto 2012 will be held for sharing vulnerability information on a global basis.

17th Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS)
Jun 18 – Jun 19 all-day
17th Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS)

Information security and privacy continue to grow in importance, as threats proliferate, privacy erodes, and attackers find new sources of value. Yet the security of information systems and the privacy offered by them depends on more than just technology. Each requires an understanding of the incentives and trade-offs inherent to the behavior of people and organizations. As society’s dependence on information technology has deepened, policy-makers have taken notice. Now more than ever, careful research is needed to characterize accurately threats and countermeasures, in both the public and private sectors.

The Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS) is the leading forum for interdisciplinary scholarship on information security and privacy, combining expertise from the fields of economics, social science, business, law, policy, and computer science. Prior workshops have explored the role of incentives between attackers and defenders of information systems, identified market failures surrounding Internet security, quantified risks of personal data disclosure, and assessed investments in cyber-defense. The 2018 workshop will build on past efforts using empirical and analytic tools not only to understand threats, but also to strengthen security and privacy through novel evaluations of available solutions.
