Conferences
To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we are happy to welcome many international experts, including three special guests: Charles Bennett and Gilles Brassard, the early pioneers of quantum cryptography and teleportation (BB84 protocol) and Artur Ekert, the inventor of entanglement based quantum cryptography (E91 protocol).
The Winter School will take place between 20th-26th January 2018 and will feature two tracks:
- The Executive Track will provide a high-level overview of quantum threats and cyber security during the first two days
- The in-depth Technology Track will last the full week and go into all of the technical details
This year, our distinguished faculty guests will include Romain Alléaume, Nicolas Gisin, Jason Hart, Andrew Lord, Vadim Makarov, Michele Mosca, Renato Renner, Sandu Popescu and ID Quantique’s R&D team.
We are very happy to announce that the 2018 edition will be bigger with 2 days of trainings on the 20th and 21st of March followed by 2 days of conferences on the 22nd and 23rd of March.
We will have two tracks during the conference which means most people should be able to view all the content they want, but tracks will be recorded anyway.
Also for the first time, we will open the submission for trainings and talks, so don’t be shy and submit !
In 2018, the International Conference on Cyber Conflict will be 10 years young! To celebrate this milestone, we are offering the cyber security community the opportunity to shape the focus of our anniversary conference. Instead of setting a predefined core topic for this conference, we invite our trusted research community to submit original research papers on their choice of the most topical and current cyber security issues, from technical, legal, policy, strategy or military perspectives. With your valuable contribution we will present the world’s premier cyber defence conference for the tenth time.
CyCon is organised by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. Every year, over 500 decision-makers and experts from government, military and industry from all over the world approach the conference’s key theme from legal, technology and strategy perspectives, often in an interdisciplinary manner.
In 2014 we conducted the first Area41 conference with more than 350 participants. The conference is a direct successor to the hashdays conference, which we started in 2010.
Since the interest has been growing we had to make a few adjustments. We changed our location running the conference in the heart of Zurich, which makes it very easy for our international guests to join us quickly and without hassle. After we sold out hashdays in 2012, we were looking for a location that can provide the cozy comfort of the Radisson Blu in Lucerne, but provide more space and opportunities for our guests. We will be able to host more guests at a better price and we have great options for accommodation nearby.
Secondly and more prominently, we are retiring the name hashdays. While we are very, very (!) enthusiastic about our new location and looking forward to take things to a new level, we feel that hashdays belonged to Lucerne and to the specific atmosphere we created there. We will keep the hashdays brand alive by continuing to provide all archived materials, such as videos, presentations and notes available, but we decided to name our Zurich conference Area41, a name that represents our close association to DC4131, the local Swiss DEFCON group. It should also make things a little bit easier for all of you who got funny questions about the word ‘hash’ on your expense report…
Swiss Cyber Storm is an international IT security conference in the domain of cyber attacks and defense. On the management and tech track, international experts talk about the latest findings, techniques, visions, opinions and lessons learned. To complement the talks, the conference features the opportunity to link with the swiss finalists team of the European Cyber Security Challenge. Swiss Cyber Storm provides a lot of room for the networking with national and international experts.
In 2018, we have witnessed our own quantum revolution. Quantum Cybersecurity is no longer a research topic only, but has clearly become a “must” for leading companies worldwide.
Now is the time to learn about it in the relaxing, healthy and stimulating environment of Les Diablerets winter resort in the Swiss Alps.

Following last year’s success, Insomni’hack returns for 2019 with two days of (at least) 2 tracks of conference.
2 days training will also take place from the 19th of March.
As usual, the CTF will be running the Friday 22nd of March in the evening. The teaser will be on the weekend of the 19th-20th of January 2019.

Devopsdays is a worldwide series of technical conferences covering topics of software development, IT infrastructure operations, and the intersection between them. Each event is run by volunteers from the local area.
Most devopsdays events feature a combination of curated talks (see open calls for proposals ) and self organized open space content. Topics often include automation, testing, security, and organizational culture.
